February 2008 - First calculation method released

2018-04-25 01:01:16
Between November 2007 and February 2008 the first calculation method for PROTIDE is developed. It is released in a prototype version via http://protide.chartasoftware.com/.

PROTIDE should have a probabilistic calculation method to calculate tidal window advices. This method is based on the probability a given ship, with a given load, that travels with a course and speed under certain circumstances hits the channel bottom. By combining statistics on this input and simulating around the variance a method is designed that can calculate this probability at any time and location. Comparing this with a cut off criterion results in a list of safe "time location intervals". The final step is finding a route through these intervals to create a safe route and with it a safe tidal window advice.

Status

The released version is the first prototype version of the calculation method and can be used on the one month of data available, fixed environment (channel) and one ship type. Limited as it is, it does give a first glance of the possibilities and the feasibility of the chosen direction.
